if u do the speed cal first not only is it illegal cause your mileage will be screwed up, its stupid wait till the gears are installed and do it in the parking lot

And you have no idea what your talking about.

You can install it first if you set the dip switches to the stock 3.27's.. it wont change anything at that reading. When you get it back, just change the dip switches again to what ever ratio you put in. It'll take about 10 min tops to change the dip switches.

If you look in the sticky's I did a "how to" on the speed cal.. step by step on it. Its pretty simple to do.

illegal? For one, who would know? He can istall it now and set it to the stock gears, all he'll have to do is change the dip switches when he does the gears. Have you ever tried to install a speedcal in a parking lot, doesn't sound like much fun to me.
I understand what you are saying and intentionally tanpering with the odometer is illegal, but that's not his intentions. Saying it's illegal is like saying it's illegal to have one on the car, he could set it to a 5.33 gear and save on mileage isn't that the same concept.

One quick question though.. why did you get a speed cal instead of a tuner for your car? only the 98's and back need the speed cal.. the tuner would have been a bit more expensive but a lot better option in the long run.

im aware it isnt his intention... and why install it, and then spend more time recalibrating it.. i guess youre the type that likes to do sh*t twice? good luck with a header install, maybe you can put the left one on first and leave the other one stock until you get a tune haha

to the guy who asked why he didnt get a tuner, i see what you mean, cause then you can firm up shifts (auto) adjust for gear size, etc. but 400 bucks is pretty pricey to gain 10hp on 93 octane and thats what most people see, is the numbers. however, it would have been a better investment. a dyno tune would be a little cheaper and a hell of alot better.

When you can afford the tuner just put the speedcal on ebay!

in HaVs defense, how is it doing it twice? It takes a few mins to adjust the dip switches. According to you it's illegal driving with the speedo not calabrated, pretty much only givng him the option of installing in it a parking lot. I'm not sure if you ever installed one but it would be a PITA in a parking lot, unless if you brought a floor jack, jack stands and your tools and wanted to "set up shop" in the parking lot. As for firming up the shift points in and auto, sure a handheld will do that for an auto, but obviously if he's installing a speedcal he doesn't have an auto.
