Default Blown plug

Well got my motor back together. Everything ran good til I blew a plug. It's gonna cost 830 dollars to get it heili-coiled.

Anyone else had this problem and how much did you pay?

It happened to my mother's Wrangler and she paid $400 to get it helicoiled... That sucks, man. Mine still isn't running either. I hate not driving my car! How long have you been without your's?

throw in 400 more $ and you can just get yourself a new set of heads from Patriot. I mean if you gotta spend the 800$ anyway to fix stockers, might as well get an upgrade out of it. I have also been told that the helicoiling of those heads dont last to long and tends to become an issue again down the road.

Helicoil is a sound repair, but don't plan on running high numbers or boosting it. And make sure you put a new plug in there now because I wouldn't want to change it later, ya know?

Since the day after my 20th b-day so Feb. 20th. I got the motor done and got it towed to get the LTs put on. The car started up fine. The only thing was the power steering line was crimped so that needed to be replaced. Then I pick up the car yesterday and drive it 5 miles and the thermostate was leaking. Got my dads car and drove 180 miles round trip to get a new thermostate housing. I get back to the gas station my car is at and put it on. Start it up and the spark plug blows. Needless to say there was a lot of cursing. The car is 20 mins from my house and it is getting towed today to the closest Ford Dealership. My friend got his heili-coil done there and it cost him 830 so I called them this morning and they said 830 for mine aswell. I guess it is gonna be sitting at the dealership for another week or so. Sucks cause the weather is so perfect now.

That sucks. Why don't you pull the head yourself? That should be about $600-$700 cheaper. That's where all of the labor is. I have to pull my head back off, too. It sucks... Good luck with the helicoil.

That's pretty dumb. You working on your car means that you have learned a trade and thatshould be admired and not looked down upon. It just seems to me that less and less people are working on their own cars nowadays. Which is great for me being a mechanic ...

Yeah well the thing about my dad is that he is not a car enthusiast. I am pretty happy that he has helped me out the last 3 months on my car payments so that I have money to get my motor back together. He just thinks of cars as something to get from point A to B. He thinks having a V8 GT isn't neccessary. Well right now I am trying to figure out where I wanna take my car to get worked on. Either way I don't have much money til payday on friday.
