Here is what I have learned from my experiences..

1). Drain the fluid from the drain plug under the car.
2). Remove your shifter to gain access to the top of the transmission
3). Put 4qt into the transmission (Standard Dexron 3)

The thing I couldn't get straight is whether 4qt is the correct amount and whether standard dexron 3 was the right fluid to use. However thats what the Ford dealer (for what is worth) told me.

I heard that it was 3.25q's. How will you know when it is full? so using a pump is not required??

There is a drain plug on the very bottom, and a fill plug on the side. When the fluid starts to run out the side plug, with the car on level ground, it is full.

Yeah...I wouldnt (didnt) take off the shifter. I think the easiest way is to...

1. Get under the car and remove the fill plug on the passenger side of the t45 and then take out the drain plug (near the bottom of the trans) and let it all drain out.

2. Put the drain plug back in.

3. Use a small pump and pump about 3.25 quarts into the fill hole. Fill it untill it starst coming out the fill hole, letit level off, and then put the plug back in. I used Royal Purple Max Auto Trans Fluid, as do alot of guys with t45s.

And we have a winner here folks. Taking off the shifter is 10 minutes tops and if you used Cobra Bob's gaskets no mess and they are reuseable.

I would guess with 4 quarts in you wouldn't have many seals left Sap.

Taking off the shifter is the easiest way. It'll take you 10 minutes at the most.

I have a short throw shifter so I know my way around dissassembeling it, the major problem though is how do you really know when its full? I mean doing it with a pump the excess spills out, but when you fill it through the shifter there is no way of knowing when your full right?

take off the fill plug on the side, and when it gets up to there its full?
