Ive been told that with the mach 460 sound system the pulleys will cause battery failure, no idea if theres any truth to it at all though

May not be the pulleys fault.
People typically never use the AC in the fall to spring and after a while the o rings inside the system dry and crack. Then the refrigerant escapes.
When you use your AC there is an oil that is carried through thelineswith the refrigerant that lubes these o rings and keeps them plyable.

My wifes car (not a mustang)was bought new in 99 and in the owners manual it said to make sure that you turn on the AC a least every 2 weeks and run it for a min. of 5-10 minutes especially in the colder months. I have done that with her car and honestly the AC is as cold today as it was in 99. I have done this with both our other cars and have never had an AC failure.

Steeda are arguably the best non piggyback kind that I know of. I have a set myself.
