02 GT vs. 06 Eclipse GT?

02 GT vs. 06 Eclipse GT?
About three weeks ago I bought an 02 Mustang GT automatic with 11,000 miles. This car is totally stock except for a K&N air filter I just put on it. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I'll get some Magnapacks put on. I'n the past I've had a couple of 5.0 5 speed Mustangs, they didn't feel nearly as strong to me.There'sa guyat work with one of the new Eclipses with like 263 horsepower (it's a manual) that is talking some serious trash to me and told me that any time I'm ready he'll wipe the street with me.Shouldn't I have an advantage from a dig? Thanks.

I dont know much about an eclipse, but if hes got 263 hp, it might be a close race. Your car puts out 260 to the crank, about 225 to the wheels. If hes pushing 263 to the wheels then you might have trouble. I would agree that you would have the upper hand from a dig because you should have more low end torque.

You have him, Exact same thing happened to me. I had my 01 gt with 27,000 miles on automatic with just a bbk CAI and i raced a brand new eclipse but it was automatic, and i put a few car lenghts on it b4 we shut down. I was expecting it to be real close since they have 263 hp but maybe they dont have much torque..??

I was hoping there was a weight difference, but found out they are about the same....
02 GT curb weight = 3485 lb
06 Eclipse curb weight = 3472 lb
BTW...The Eclipse is 263 HP at the crank, not at the rear wheels

14.89 seconds at 95.37 mph for an eclipse according to www.cars.com

...they dont weigh the same..the coupe weighs like 3150 and the vert weighs like 3300..so anyways that eclipse weighs around 3500 pounds..it has 2 more hp then us but about 40 less lbs of torque
