gas milage
so thanks to Oklahoma blowing up some oil in the last few days..gas is now 3 arms and a leg to fill up. unfortunately i do not have 3 arms. I need some help because I am getting terrible gas milage in my stang. I have resorted to driving my winter car (1996 Mazda 626 V6). I am new to 8 cylinder engines as well as manual tranmission. Sure some of the time I am a jackass and decide I want to beat the little black civic that pulls up next to me..even if its a 60 year old gma. Anyways I drive smoothly but still get the terrible gas milage. Where is the best time to shift? At what rpms? And when I'm cruising along, what rpms should I be around to get the best milage.
My friend has a BMW with a miles per gallon gauge. I try to duplicate his driving when he gets 25 mpg, which means i hold the rpms around 1500-2000.
Any help?

im getting about 12 mpg. and thats on this last half tank ive used where i HAVENT driven it hard. I dont expect the 25 mpg but i want at LEAST...13 or so haha. I have a completely stock 2003 GT w/ 4400 miles.
If you haven't done it, clean your air filter, change your fuel filter, and maybe run some injector cleaner (might help). Other than that, shift at about 2,000 RPM in every gear, don't go to 2,500 plus. Don't cruise around at 80 mph, try going the speed limit most of the time. If you do those things, you should see some significant improvements.
well i get about 18-19 m/g and i shift around 2-3k if just normal driving and try to stay around 2400 but this is with 4.10s in 4th gear. if you have stock gears you should get about 20-22 m/g and stay around 2k in 4th gear if on the freeway you should try to cruise about the same 2k -2200 in 5th gear.
