I'm looking into buying a 2000-2001 GT 5-Spd and I'm just looking for comments or complaints on why or why not I should get one. Just curious.

99-00 GT's have T45 transmission....There's hardly any problems with those trannys..
01+ GT's have the 3650 Tranny and people are having tons of problems with those..It's damn near impossible to shift from first to second in cold weather.

Either way you go be sure to change the clutch out immediately...The stock clutch won't last you a good month.

I honestly would get a 99-00 GT....I also think those model years just plain look better....A non-fuctional hood scoupe doesn't work and some have been known to retain water which can leak down into the motor causing problems.

I can vouch for that [&:] I have to pause a good 2 seconds during the 1-2 shift until the tranny's warm. In the summer its fine, but in the winter until you've been drivin around for about 10 minutes you've gotta be careful going into second.... but... after its warm it shifters like no other! Very nice shifting tranny, other than cold.

IMO the hoodscoop looks better than the cheap/fake honey comb grill insert they put. If they woulda did something a little different and took that out but somehow managed to keep the lines of the hood.. it would be better.

I'm on my stock clutch on an 02 with 40k miles and pushing over 330 rwhp/340 torque. I wouldn't worry about the stock clutch until you have a problem.

Water won't leak down into the motor since the hood scoop is just a piece of fiberglass bolted onto the top of a V6 hood. Other than the bolt holes (which are plugged by the bolts and washers), there is no opening to the engine compartment. Note that there is also a large heat shield between the hood and the engine compartment as well.

If you like the look of the 99, 00 then go for it but I wouldn't say that the 3650 tranny is a negative. I dont have any problems with mine. With a tri-ax it shifts like a dream.

The only complaint is.... its too slow
Well I drive an auto V6 now so I mean the GT is going to seem a lot faster. But I have driven Z28's, WS6 T/A's, 95 GT's, and a 96 GT. All of them were modded so I mean a 00 GT wouldnt be the fastest thing ever but it'll be a major upgrade from my car now and I'll mod it out.

Go for it man sounds good. Just remember once you start to mod ya cant stop. I mean it like a disease or something you constantly want to see how much more power you can sqweez out of it. GT are so much fun to drive you'll love it

HAHAH Yes it is a disease. I have spent so much time in my V6 auto moding it, but I still love it. But anyway, Yes I will most certainly have to get a 5Spd.
