i think i read somewhere that 04 have large valves, high lift cams, and identical intake manifold runners. This particular model makes cranking the engine easier, too, with a coil on plug ignition system. This increases control and makes igniting the engine easier than ever. Additionally, the engine is designed for durability with an aluminum upper main, upper thrust, and rod bearings. Fuel efficiency is obtained through well designed combustion chambers. chech this out https://mustangforums.com/timeline/2004-ford-mustang/
Marketing BS fed to them by Ford. The larger valves, higher lift cams, and improved intake runners, and COPs were part of the "PI" package introduced in 1999. That's how they got the 4.6 2V moved from 225 HP to 260. I don't know when the switch from 19# to 20.5# injectors was made, however my '03 GT (manufactured in February of 2003) has the pink 20.5# units--I would suspect that this has to do with making the engine run better with some of the whacked out reformulated fuels having lower BTUs/lb. The larger injectors would give the PCM a bit more headroom for richening the mix...

from what I know about the windsor and romeo blocks is that they were built in all years, most of the stangs being a romeo block. The way you can tell is by one of the letters/numbers in your vin, I can't remember where that thread is that had this info tho.

Romeo has 11 bolts, Windsor 13 -- the differences in the blocks are purely in mechanical design, largely to accomodate the differing equipment at the two plants. I have never heard it asserted that there was any power advantage to one or the other (there are devotees of the differing main caps and other mechanical differences). It would also seem, as referenced by another poster, that there are far more Romeo than Windsor engined new-edge Mustangs, some sources I'v seen place a change to Romeo exclusively at the same time as the T-45 -> 3650, water pump pulley, and other changes in mid-2001.

I checked at the dealership about the vin #. I was told to look at the 8th # on the vin. He said if it's a X then you have a windsor block and if it's a W then you have a romeo block. I don't think it's true though because I have a X which would be a windsor but I have11 bolt valve covers which is Romeo heads. So, did they mix match heads and blocks from the factory or did I get bad info?
