5.4 question

5.4 question
I am thinking about a 5.4 swap into my 02. I was wondering if there are any stroker kits offered for the 5.4 to increase its displacment. Next question. Since the 5.4's have a taller deck height, do the require a longer timing chain, or can one from a 4.6 be used. Any help is greatly appreciated.

RE: 5.4 question
You really don't want a stroker kit for a 5.4. The stroke is plenty long enough. If you want that thing to rev at all . You could go .020" over on the pistons but that's really all I would do as far as increasing displacement on a 5.4.
You will need the timing chains off of a 5.4. You will also need the timing cover.

RE: 5.4 question
Alright! Thanks. I cove from the land of chevy's[sm=boosign.gif][sm=guilty.gif] where more is better. Thought this was the same concept. I will be getting a forged rotating assembly that will be balanced locally. I plan to to either a nitrous or turbo setup to it down the road, but for now, just the brute torque should keep me happy

RE: 5.4 question
As you've read, the 5.4 is a 4.6 with a longer stroke... The longer the stroke the more stress is put on the rotating assembly with RPM.
4.6 4v > 5.4 2v... There's my suggestion, spend money on swapping a DOHC in instead of a 5.4... You'll have more power and torque... the weak link in these engines is the heads, they just don't flow... increasing displacement still leaves you trying to suck more air through the 2vheads which don't flow enough for a 4.6, let alone anything bigger.

RE: 5.4 question
I don't have the money to do a DOHC swap, which i would love to do. I have a gentleman willing to sell me a 5.4, Complete, still running, 39,000 mile engine for 150 W/ecu, so i can actually afford this. I was going to go ahead and put new parts in it due to the low initial purchase price. I just really want something different. If I do 4V, I am just going to do a terminator swap, because if I don't, I will wish i did after I put LT's on a 4V.

the 5.4 is a 302 bored .30 over with a 3 1/4 in. stroke
the 5.4 is a 302 bored .30 over with a 3 1/4 in. stroke
The 5.4 has the same bore as a 4.6 and a longer stroke. They use the same heads. A 302 is a pushrod engine with one cam total located in the valley between the heads. The 4.6 and 5.4 have either 2 or 4 cams and they are located 1 or 2 over each cylinder head.
Whatever magazine you read that out of is mistaken but I think you are just talking out of your POOPAR
