A 245/45 and a 275/40 are very close to the same diameter (the ABS will probably like this better).

There's nothing wrong with mounting 245/45's on 9" rims. Actually, under extreme cornering conditions such as autocross or open-tracking that size is better off on 9's than on 8's. So it kind of comes down to whether you are willing to trade away a little performance for appearance reasons or not. To be fair, it'll ride a bit more stiffly on the wider rims, if you or any of your usual passengers are sensitive to that sort of thing.

Keep in mind that 'appearance' as used here is a funny thing to try to define or describe to others- I've always feltthat a 245-width tire didn't look right on anything less than 8.5" rims. Doesn't look like there's enough lateral support.

Thanks for all the info guys,I guess I'll just stick with the stock 245/45r17's. I'm probably going to go with the Kumho ECSTA MX's or maybe those Fuzions that were mentioned.

This is for everyone who thinks I'm a "lying piece of ****. Factory Ford 17x8 with factory pony center caps and a 315/35-17 BFG drag radials

After a 10.5" wheel with exact same tire as above

I think the original poster (remember him?) has enough information to make his decision.

How 'bout we just let it go instead.
