Default Estimate on labor??

Hey, guys..how you doing?? Alright, finally I found the resource to my problem. Recently, like two months ago..I started noticing engine oil in the coolant...it came out kinda like brown paste. Anyways, I posted and my problem here and many of you advice me its gaskets. Well..I knew I had to save some dough for opening the engine. I did and it turns out that the heads were cracked. Which is also why I used to see white smoke because it pass down water with oil into the combustion chamber and burn it up into blue smoke. Okay, so I was able to get a new head (just the right one, left one still good to go ) for about 150 bucks. Alright, swap that (its for a mustang 96 GT auto ). Now it turns out the timing belt is loose, engine support brackets, oil cooler gaskets are mess up and all the gaskets for the whole engine. He also has to take the radiator out since its full of engine oil..he had to clean the engine block also..it was full of oil in the water lines. Anyways, in parts it came just about 300 bucks..the labor he was going to charge me originally for 200..now he says for the "extra" stuff he has to do..its going to be 300. Pretty much 600 total.I was kinda pissed at first.. but I ask around and they said its fair enough for all the work he had to do. I was wondering with you guys..300 sounds like a deal? Thanks for your help. The car suppose to be done today.

Sounds about right to me. He gave you the quote of 200 before he knew he had to do anything else. So for him to add another hundred bucks to that seems pretty fair to me.

i'd have to agree, that sounds just about right. I would actually expect to pay alot more than that from my mechanic.

300 bucks to cahnge the spark plugs. I hate how mechanics try to take advantage of girls. My girlfriend needed her fluids flushed and spark plugs and a mechanic gave her a outragous quote about the same as that. I did it all at my house **** paying thatmuch. and she has a lil contour by the way.
