Ram makes a nice heay duty clutch that has a light pedal. im using it in my cobra and im in love with it. 360 is what i think it retails for.

the key to building up a T5, T45, or T56 to to have the bearings preloaded slightly. I just rebuilt the T-45 in my 98 GT about a month ago because of a broken 3-4 shift fork which was laying at the bottom of the case.... I also threw a nice set of synchros in along with High Capacity Koyo Bearings. Since i have long tube headers i decided to do a PI swap with a port and polish but thats a whole different story. Back to the T-45, basicly what i found out when i rebuilt it was that damn...its way beefier than a T-5. The imput shaft is huge and everything is just overly built. Ford and BW say to set the bearing preload to zero tolerance with no freeplay or preload but any one who builds race trans will tell you differently and i've experienced it personally just this week. Its preloaded by about .005 inches so it keeps it nice and tight. When i let off the throttle there is no clunk and when i shift there is no banging. Its amazing what 5 thousands of an inch does. The kit i got was from hanlon motorsports in PA and it was around 400 bucks with shift forks.

We really need to stop dissing these trans's that ford gave us. the 96-98 Gt's only made about 290 TQ and the trans is rated for 325. The GM camaro spec T-56 is only rated for 350 TQ and they make very close to that number stock which meens they dont have much room to work with as we do.

If you build a T-45 up correctly as i did i would say it could hold as much as a TKO 600 any day of the week. I would be completely competent putting a blower on top of my PI swap and pushing 600 TQ...only if the motor would hold! lol.

If you have the money, get the TKO, but if you have the tools, time, and knolege, spend less and build a sick T-45. They arent as ****ty as you all may think. Take one apart before you go dissing one.

A few of you guys know that I'm dropping in a MMR shortblock around the first of June. Well, everyone knows how sh*tty the T-45 is, so I called my tuner/tech about possibly beefing up the T-45 and he told me he had a brand new TKO/500 with a bell housing for 1700.00! SOLD!!! All I need is the slip yoke and clutch fork plus a new clutch/pressure plate. I already have an 11" 8 bolt flywheel on hand so I'm set!!
For some reason everyone told me (not on this website, the shops I bought from) that I would need a new yoke... but the stock one fit.

What I ended up doing was ordering the FRPP aluminum driveshaft, it comes with a new yoke and its not that much more than the price of a aftermarket yoke alone.

Rofl.

There isn't anything you can do, in any way, that will make a t45 even close to the holding capacity or just general quailty of a TKO.The T-45 is JUNK.. doensn't matter what you do to it, its just nota well designed trans.

So far as having beefy internals... you need to look inside the TKO.

BTW, the "500" and "600" ratings are very conservative, it will hold lots lots more than that. Even with your "upgrades" you make 600 WTQ (or ALOT less than that) and your going to destroy that trans the first hard launch/shift... plain and simple.

i went the T45 route once, and I will not do so again. Took about 8 months to shell out the 2nd one, and from now on its either TKO/T56 or automatics for me... 45s just S U C K

Lizzy: You should cancel your order and get the FRPP driveshaft, about the same price and you drop some rotational wieght.
