but after awhile doesnt "sludge" build up in the engine, or am i just a victim of terror advertising lol

Any additives are snake oil at best. As was posted earlier, proper maintenance, fuels ect.. is the best thing you can do.

Thought I'd throw this out there. I used royal purple for the first time the other day. Great stuff. The car loves it.
