Weird Question- Need answers
So i was chillin with some friends last night, just drinking and sh*t. my buddy pulls up in his 06 stang (v6). pulls into the driveway of my house and asks if he can use the hose, so i said yeah for what. this guy starts spraying down his engine bay. keep in mind he just drove 45 minutes running the A/C. isnt it a bad idea to spray cold water on 200+ degree metal (asking for a crack or something) or is he alright in doing this. ive never heard of this. ive only heard of pressure washing to get oil and such off not spray to cool off. and while hes doing this steam is going everywhere

RE: Weird Question- Need answers
It is certainly not the best thing for the motor. Rapid heat changes are very bad for metal and it becomes very brittle. It would actually probably be better for him to leave the car running with the A/C on (ensures the cooling fan stays running) and blast the living hell out of the radiator with water. Thus further cooling the coolant and cooling down the engine correctly and safely.

why didnt i stop him? i told him hes gonna crack the block or something else. he said "no, the metal is too thick to get a thermal crack". so i said its his decision but i warned him. nothing has broke on it yet. then again its only 104 out not 118 like it will be in august
