Default HELP! rear end problem im afraid!!!

while driving home tonight i noticed a sound at a stop light when i put on my brakes (coming down from about 35 everything normal, no slamming on the brakes. Just a normal stop) sounds kinda like something rubbing real bad, kinda metallic rubbing sound. I also noticed some banging sounds, im afraid it might be my rear, or could it just be a brake rotor rubbing on something, maybe worn pads? help![:@]

i would start with your brakes first before you go tearing into the rear. The differential and stuff with labor can get really pricey where as the rear brakes are much easier to work on.

mine makes a rubbing sound too, but no banging, it's been doing it for a while now. I am going to put new gears in and replace the bearings when I get the rest of the $

If you only hear it when your breaking and it stops when your foot is off the breaks, its your breaks. If it doesn't stop regardless of your speed or wheather you are on the gas, brakes or idling, its the rear end. Your Diff never dissengages, so the sound of something in your Diff would NEVER go away.
