Default 3rd IS GRINDING!!!

Yeah, I was takin the RPM's up a little today throught 1st, 2nd, and shifting into 3rd...she grinds like a *****. I had to force it into gear or shift slower. Is this just normal? Cause I really havn't pushed my car until I started noticing the grind. Do ya think it's always been there, but I didn't know cuz I didn't take the RPM's up too high? It only does it when I shift past like 4500 RPM, and shifting hard, like racing almost. It grinds, I let the input shaft slow down, and then pop it in straight. Only happens in high RPM's never when shifting normally. \

So what's up?I know it's the synchromesh for 3rd, but I wanna know if they're really hard to change out, or possible to at all? I have a good automotive background (built a 10 sec car 2 years ago from nothing, see my sig...). Has anybody changed their own synchros? Or if not, what is the BEST OPTION FOR THE MONEY? I'm 16 and terribly limited on cash. Getting a summer job, but I'm saving up for more mods. I have some leftover cash in case of emergencies, so I could use that.

I havent seen many rebuild kits out there for Stang trannys. They may have more options for your T-45 but through searching I came up with none for the 3650.......I'll be going the $1,900 TKO-600 route eventually.

Funny you mention that, thats the tranny we got in the Cobra...It's AWESOME!

I really can't afford a new tranny, unless I work my *** off this summer at a high paying job. [&:]

If you have the cash, any tko trannsmission or a t56 will handle abuse unlike your t-45. There are kits out there and made by tremec. But unless you want to keep it from re-occuring, you will want to caugh up the extra cash to get the carbon fiber synchros. I think thats what the performance synchros are made. No f-ing clue how you would install them.

I was going to say get a short shifter until I got you sig. I guess royal purple synchromesh is also good to minimize the grind too.

If your looking to do it on a budget your best bet is to junk the 45 and get yourself a 3650. They should be fairly cheap to pickup as its a stock ford trans but its alot better than anything you can do on a budget to your T-45.

the 3650 is trash. clunky, noisy, sloshy, ****ty. I think most of us will agree.

3650 > T-45.

If you think the 3650 is junk you obivously haven't driven a car with the 45 in it. Everything about the 45 is inferior.

on top of that, you just don't see/hear about people making 400+ for long with the 45 like you do with the 3650. its not the perfect solution (I am always one to recommend the TKO) but he said he cannot afford something like the TKO. Pulling out the 45 and replacing it with the 3650 is his best bet.... if you rebuild the 45 you will just be doing it again in a few months anyway.
