Default Motor Oil

heres a nice little topic, what motor oil are you guys using and do you change your own oil? i'm gonna go with mobil-1 5w30 and i'll be putting it in myself tomorrow. i'll be getting some rhino ramps from pepboys, 7 quarts of mobil-1 5w30, my oil filter (motorcraft FL-820-s filters) from walmart, and a oil drain pan. i'm only going to be puttin in about 6.5 quarts tho and i'll be jacking up the passenger side of the car to make sure i get all the oil out.

Don't bother putting the car on ramps if you are going to jack it up. You will be tilting the motor.

I usually jack the drivers side up enough to get under there and loosen the plug and pull it out, Lower the car back down and jack up the passenger side until it is done draining. Then it is back over to jack up the drivers side to do the drain plug and filter.

Make sure you put something under you oil fiter to catch the oil that spills. It will get all over the steering rack and make it a real mess if you don't.

I use Redline brand 5-20 synthetic, and I use their filters as well.

OK, I feel a little stupid here. Always changed my own oil because I don't trust anyone with my baby! But why are you guys jacking up the passenger side of the motor? Is that to get thxtra lil bit of old oil out? and I use Ford MotorCraft oil, am I the only one?? An what's wrong with FRAM? I have always used those too......

EMann I agree with you. I change my own oil for the same reason. I also use Motorcraft 5w-20 oil and Motorcraft filter. Probably because Motorcraft is a Ford product. No complaints... have had no problems. '03 GT.
