Default WOT Issue, Rev. Limiter??

Hey All,

Does anyone else have this issue???/ When going WOT, it sounds like my Mustang has a Rev Limiter on it. It's kinda embarassing when I'm "showing off/up" a Honda with a big tailpipe and I floor it and it sounds like a rev limiter is on there instead of a solid WOT sound.

Could this be the coil packs?

Any ideas???

Sam

Where does it happen in the RPM range? You you DO have a rev limiter. lol. Could be that.

If it's at a particular spot, its a coil most likely.

It only happens when I'm stepping onit pretty good. I haven't looked at the tach when it's happening. My guess would be up high, so I could be hitting the rev. limiter then. I'm not going to lie, I like to make my Mustang go fast. I'll rub it with a diaper all day long, but I drive it like I stole it. I never understood the people who buy a Dodge Viper and keep it under 50 all the time. Now, there car will most likely last for 50 years where mine will last for 30. I enjoy my car that's all.

As far as answering your question....I'll look at the tach when I get off work later today, and see if it's way up high. Do you know where the rev limiter would start, I would guess up at the top.

The limiter is at 6250rpm. Just a little peice of advice, shift about 5800rpm. YOu will GO SLOWER if you shift at 6200 everytime. Your car doesnt make power up that high.

LMAO! I just had this problem with mine. Feels like the car is runnin outta power, right? but when u let off the gas it will climb again?

My issue wound up bein from a kinda loose coil pack. The bolt holding it in got ****ed up and cross threaded, so it wouldnt go in all the way, so i used washers to tighten it. Replaced the washers this morning, took the car for a half hour drive, didnt **** up once.

Thanks for the info all. My Mustang is an auto with a shift kit. The coil packs all seem to be pretty loose. I thought that was just how they were. I'll double check them this evening.

Ahh, MVR, I'm sorry I can't seem to read your post, I can't seem to take my eyes off of your avatar. WOW.

Be sure to take em out, and make sure the rubber boots are free of debris. Then put em back on TIGHTLY, like press down as much as u can, then tighten em down as much as possible. But be careful not to cross thread em, or ul have my issue. [&:]
