Default Starting in Second Gear

I got my 4.10's installed yesterday and it seems like launching in second while daily driving is much easier and quicker then using first. Will launching in second like this wear my clutch out faster because you have to feather is a bit more? Will it be bad to do this?

I also ahve 3.73s and while I don't always launch in 2nd I very often do--as long as your not excessively riding the clutch or lugging the engine you won't hurt anything...

While it might not cause any harm or wear over night, or even over a couple year time frame, I would imagine that over a LONG time *as in the lifetime of a typical clutch* staring in 2nd gear more often than 1st will cause some eventual wear.

Just the fact that feather it out/ride it a tad longer to get moving and climb to usual 2nd gear speeds leads one to think that obviously youre using it and causing a bit more wear on it.

Don't worry about it though. As long as youre not out every day doing 2nd gear burnouts, and just beating on your clutch like a racecar, you'll be fine.

I catch myself doing it alot, but more often at a stop sign where I only come to a very slow roll, in which case 2nd is alot more friendly than a clunk into 1st.

Good call 72MachOne99GT. Especially when doing a "rolling" stop it is much easier just starting in 2nd.
