Installing my new steeda tri ax shifter and when i pulled the shifter there was no plastic bushing on the end of the shifter so i look in the tranny and only see a manilla color plastic peice. Is this the bushing? Steeda's instructions show it being black with small cracks or indents on the sides. Mine is manilla color which is cylinder shaped and does not "snap" on to the ball of the shifter. Please help am i missing something?

 

Sounds like it though it is hard without pics. Put the shifter ball in it and see if it fits. If you don't have excessive movement at the ball all is well.

 

Sounds like someone may have broken the original bushing and replaced it with something comparable. They can be a little tricky to get off. May have used a screw drivers and snapped it or something. As long as it shifts ok, it may not be a problem. Curious to see what it looks like though.
