Here's a quick way to ID your trans. If it has a drain plug on the very bottom then it's a T-3650, if the drain plug is on the side, it's a T-45[8D]
Thanks JayC! Helpful advice

Arctic, you gotta admit. You kinded made an *** comment. No worries tho [&:]

There is a debate on the years but there are mustang gt's with windsor and romeo blocks, I have heard that its in the vin but it is not confirmed.

I am in the process of trying to confirm this, I need to find out if I have an 8 or 6 bolt for my tranny swap^^.
Im not 100% but yours should be a 6 bolt. My 02 is a 6 bolt and ford told me that 01 was the last year of the windsor and 8 bolt for the GT's

02 and 04 are the same..I believe 04 had a 100yr anniversary option but performance are the same but the 04s had bullets or chrome 5 stars instead of silver 5 stars like previous years

I have a 1997 GT and my step brother has a 2004 GT Daily driving in these vehicle's is perfectly fine. They are great reliable cars that get you to where you need to be (rather quickly I might add). MPG sucks, plain and simple there's no sugar coating it. My car gets 11 MPG in and around town. I get that much because I have a lot of motor work and some bolt-ons. If you leave your motor stock you will be seeing what my bro see's around 15 mpg in town.

look in the door jam i think it says what tranny it has. if it has the t45 its from the first half of 01, if its got teh 3650 its mid 01
Not neccesarily true mine was made in Jan of 01 and it has a T45 + a Romeo engine, so old tranny, new engine. You can get all sorts of crazy stuff with an 01!
How do I tell wich motor my 01 has?

Some options became standard in 02 and some new ones availbale. I'm not 100% on these so if anybody knows different plese chime in.

Traction control became standard in 2002, ....
Mine is a 2004GT and it did not come with traction control...

Hey fruhdaddy,
I think you will have to wait another 56 years to see a 100yr anniversary option ... the 04's came with the 40th anniversary option. All 04's have "40th anniversary" on their sides instead of "GT"

99-mid 01 were windsor engines which had different valve cover bolt count, different neck length on the water pump, less threads in the sparkplug holes and 19lbs injectors.

mid 01-04 are romeo engines with 3650 trannys (manuals).

All parts will fit both engine except the underdrive pulleys.
