Default New -- Need Help with some first mods

Hey everyone.

I just got an 01 GT and i was lookin to start modding it. Now i have about $1500. What would be the best way to gain some performance?

I have been reading a lot, and I've noticed that a head swap would be the cheapest way to gain hp, but when i've looked into doing it, i've only found heads for the 93-98 engine. Can you do a head swap on an 01?

Also, i live in NJ, and im not exactly sure what the laws are here regarding these things.

Thanks

Bolt-ons are the way to get HP. Start with Exhaust. Cat-back, mid-pipe, and headers. Then you can move on to the engine. Cold air intake, mass air meter, underdrive pullys/timing adjuster, then upgrade your plenum and throttle body.

EDIT: Ah yes, the gears, cant forget about the gears. 4.10's

Why would you want a head swap, when you already have PI heads? That is unless you are looking for Fox Lake, Steen, etc, you should leave you heads alone.

Consider a cat-back, mid-pipe, m.a.m., & gears before you look into different heads. $600 will get you an 85mm C&L m.a.m., FRPP t/b, & C&L plenum, which leaves $400approx for a cat-back (Magnaflow), & $200 for a Pro 5.0 shifter, or 4.10's!!!

I've heard BBK's have a tendency to whistle, & I've not had a single problem out of my FRPP.

Go exhaust and gears that is where you will feel the difference.

Its not that they have problems, its that they are really only 68mm wide and the 75mm throttle bodys perform better.

I love my MAC 70mm for N/A

Go exhaust (mid-pipe and catback)
Gears (3.73's or 4.10's)
Pulleys
Densecharger (skip MAF) Not really worth the extra 3hp or so...I only got it b/c I needed a new MAM anyways.
Lowering springs
70mm t/b w/ ported plenum or aftermarket plenum
Suspension crap (UCA's, LCA's, subframes)

There's your $1,500 easy.
