CMP camshaft position sensor....Malfunction...
Note:most common cause is alternator Noise...Also = RFI-Radio interference and or Crankshaft position problems should be considered...

what kind of symptoms are you having? if a new cps doesn't fix it, i'm 95% sure a new/rebuilt alternator would...

Read your post....But,,,,the alternator does not send ampreage or anything else to the Cam Sensor....Its due to ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE....Radio interferance(RFI) can cause this also. The cam sensor is simply a magnetic pickup(same as the Crank sensor)...which produces a square wave pattern(on,duration or time, off) for cam signal (and crank)to the ecm....I've replaced more alternators than CMP sensors for these symtoms.Hence "usually the alternator"...just trying to clarify....

Yes is usually cheaper to replace the CMP first for someone who doesnt know how to check it out(and that may very well fix it)...and if that doesnt fix it....next comes the alternator.....I've relaced a ****z load of cam sensors on the power strokes...but less than 1/2 dozen in x(15 years) on the fordcars..

Just fixed mine a couple weeks ago.

Replaced the cam shaft sensor and blewthe 2ndone out after driving a couple of miles. Had to do more investigating and found that my alternator was bad which can short out the cam shaft sensor since it is one of the most sensitive sensors in the car. After putting a brand new (not rebuilt) alternator and a 3rd cam shaft sensor problem is fixed.

Good luck
