Default Whats the difference in HP

I killed my GT motor and bought a crown vic motor out of like a 96', I was told at the time that they were the same bottom end that i could slap everything from the heads up from my
GT on it.....now im being told that its not the same....in that it wont have the same horsepower, im told everything will fit and work, but the motor just wont be the same... where can i go to find out the difference in specs and all? thanks everyone....

a quick google search says it's a 190HP 4.6 v8. looks like you're working backwards buying that motor. NPI FTL

well the bottom end on pi and non-pi motors isnt the main difference in horse power from a 96 to a 2000 4.6. its the heads/cam/intake/tune, both bottom ends are good for the same goals of 450 hp

i believe once you bolt all your stuff onto that block, you will be set, and may have higher compression because of different style pistons.

im also not too knowledgable about the differences in motors, im sure the 4.6 in the crown vics have a diff style piston then the mustang, maybe not. theres a few websites that have a lot of info on the differences of 4.6's have in different models. hopefully all works out, g/l

you are acutaly going to be better off using the 96 bottom end and your top end off of your 2000
if i where you i would rebuild the bottom half

Your compression will go up with that bottom end. The 96 has 10.49cc pistons and your 02 had 15.80cc pistons. That will raise you compression ratio to around 10:1. If you are NA you will gain a bit of power and have to run a higher octane fuel, if you are blown you will have to drop the psi a bit and run 93 octane,

i'm guessing you didn't put too much thought into your purchase... probably should have shopped around a bit more. you can get a a 99+ motor from a mustang for fairly cheap.
