Ok guys, my car is stuck in Drive and I cant get it out of gear. It feels as if the shifter cable came lose, because it's not grabbing anything when I move it up to park or any other gear. And to make it worse the street sweeper passes tomorrow and will give me a ticket if I dont move my car. What should I do? Oh and the car wont start because its not in park.

Just push it. It'll move if it's in drive.

Jack up the driverside and check out the linkage on the tranny.

call the police and tell them its disabled, and you are trying to move it. maybe they will let you go, worth a try i guess.

Check the link cable on the transmission under the car.....it should be by the drivers side....to reach it you will need to lift the car up because it is to low...It will take some effort to move....just make sure to lift the handbrake up.

if you can bang it into nuetral the car will start and then try to slam it back into drive. is it just really firm or will it atleast go up just one notch to nuetral. if so start it and bang it into drive.

Rent some wheel dollies. You put them under each wheel and it allows you to push your car in any direction you want. . . . but thats what you get for getting an auto

I'm willing to bet the shifter cable is broken. That happened to me in my monte carlo last summer. Either do what they told you, or just unbolt the driveshaft and push it out of the way.

Yea the shifter cable is def broken, but he can drive it for a temp. time....
