Default AODE shift kit

I've heard so many ways on how to mod the AODE. The cheapest way seems to be valve body/shift kit. I don't mind spending more money if it's worth the performance. Is it better to just get a torque converter/valve body or is it just as good as getting a shift kit/valve body or is it even better to put in shift kit/torque converter/valve body?
