Default Forged Bottom

So I have been looking in to forging the internals of my car so that when I do go forced induction, I can do it right. I want to know tho. I see alot of mention of the rods and pistons being weak on gt's. But I want to know, does anyone know how much HP or PSI the stock crank is good to. I could save some money if all I need to do is change out the rodsa nd pistons and get it all balanced. Any one know?

On a stock GT? I always though it was 450rwhp is when you should start to worry. Im sure they can hold at 600 but only if youre lucky IMO

I also heard 400 to 450. If it went to 600 I don't think a lot of guys would be forging. Seems how 600 is is pretty respectable.

On that note, say you are satisfied with 550h.p. While you were changing the pistons and rods would it be recommended to chang the crank while you're already in there or would you be worry free with the stock one?

If youre already in there I'd do change the crank too. Whats a forged crank go for? $500 or so? It would be worth it just to be safe.

IMO - If you can save more then $500 to keep the stock crank... its worth it.

You would have to have ALOT of boost to push over 550rwhp on these 2v motors... I only know of Nanaki that even is pushing that kind of power right now on a 2v motor, even the blumbocat (or whatever its called [8D]) is at 475rwhp with a built motor (granted thats only at like 8pounds. Stang2000 has a built motor with 456rwhp...

Especially if your going to go with a smaller blower pushing around 10-13 pounds, then I would stay with a stock crank (only if it saved me more then $500)

But If your gonna be pushing around 15-18 pounds going for well over 550rwhp... then go ahead and replace the crank.

Acording to Sean Hyland's "How to build Max-Performance 4.6-Liter Ford Engines"
The stock crank is good for at least 500 HP, but they always use forged if exceeding 500 (hyland - page 16).
