Default torque converters?

what companies make aftermarket torque converters for the 4R70W? I looked on TCI and they want $1000+ for a stall that only goes 1500RPM more than stock, are all companies this expensive? And also why? Most torque converters are only a few hundred dollars and offerlike 2800 stall or 3200 and such.

Precision Industries ($700. for 1disc/non lock upand $900. for a 3 disc/highly recommended for high horsepwr and locking the converter btwn shifts) I had one their 1 discs in my previous gt and it performed well for a 3k stall. Im going with BC automotive (Darrin is the man there)this time as he came highly recommended from several seriously modded mustang drivers. He sells a 1 disc that will hold up with lock ups and that converter has as much or more surface area than P.I's 3 disc and apparently is more effecient as well. Im just passing on what ive read and was told by Darrin himself. P.I is a reputable company and I would buy from them, but BC auto is really establishing itself as the go to company IMHO. Oh yeah, I ordered a 3600 stall.

Yep, Darrin is good at what he does.

You can also look into CircleD and DirtyDog converters.

The $600 figures are almost assuredly single-disc converters.....NOT recommended for use in our cars. Speak with Darrin or Alan (DirtyDog). They probably won't want to sell you a single-disc. The thinking here is that you only want to buy a converter once, and a single-discwon't hold upto higher hp demands. Protect yourself for future mods, and go with a multi-disc.
Also, you're going to want to be sure about your future plans. For instance, you don't want a 3800 stall if you're going to be putting a KB blower on it.

I assume it's hard for you to hook up on street tires? Also, does it stall all the way up to 3500 rpm, or a little less? I have heard than many torque converters stall a few hundred rpm's less than their rating....?

Yeah, its pretty tough to hook up, it just depends on the rode, but w/ my shift kit in as well, it shifts right at 34-3500. The only thing I need now is some more end power.

Stall speed is affected by hp. If you install a t/c that is designed to stall to 3600 in a 400 hp engine in a 300 hp engine, it's going to stall at a lower rpm.

Also, you pretty much have to mash it from idle to get a good idea of the true stall speed. Loading it up (brakes depressed) will not allow the converter to "flash", and you'll stall at a lower rpm. So, you need good traction to really get a feel for a high stall converter.
