ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you're wrong.... just a fyi...

The 4v low end power is better then the 2v low end power. Its just harder to tell because you have more power on the 4v... the 4v continues to pull whereas the 2v stops thats why... It's just a butt dyno thing, where it feels like it has a crappy low end, but it's not true in the numbers... The motor just builds power longer so it feels longer until you reach full potential, but your making just as much if not more power at the same rpms with a 4v vs a 2v....

I did see the Ford Racing had a 1999 and 2000 Cobra motor option. At the time it was a steal; like $5700 with all accessories and a new transmission. The low end sucks on those motors, but they are flywheel rated at 320hp. But if my motor blows, I definitely going forged with ported heads. Anyway, either of those engines will drop right in, but if you end up with a 4 valve, of course you'll have to change out the ECU.
+1, 4v has just as much/more tq as a 2v.

So far as the engine, I woudl definatly be looking at local and internet junkyards, often you can find PI 4.6L engines for around 600-1000 bucks complete.

Also, make sure you get at least a 99-04 engine, not a pre 99, as they are NPI (much less power). There were small changes made in 01 1/2 just FYI, different fittings and stuff on the intake side, and a few other things. If I were you, for max easy install, find a 99-01 1/2 (or on safe side 99-00) engine.

+1 even with all my head and cam work plus my KB a termie still pulls on me until i get to the top of first gear, then i blow by... the low end on the 4 valve is actually pretty good.

Well if you are talking terminators, then of course you are gonna eat a 2v. But that motor and the 2000 cobra 4v are two different things. What I was talking about was stock for stock. If you mod something, you'll get 90 different scenarios on this board. But an 02 GT motor torque peaks around 4k 302 flywheel; versus that 4v which does it 317 at 4800. I didn't say that motor was a slouch; it just does most of it's performing very high up. I have driven both and I just wasn't all that impressed with it down low. Heck, I know everyone hate magazine racing, but 5.0 had a comparo with the Mach 1, a Bullitt, and an 01 Cobra, and the Cobra had to play catch up with the Bullitt. It's all preference. The 4v is still more capable.

the cobra is also a heavier car to boot. ive driven cobras and all years of GT's... i will say, the cobra is a top end car... down low a stock GT will stay with it. but once they get into those rpms, they will pull. the 4v motor has runner plates on the lower intake manifold that open up up top to get more power since the heads flow much better air. and they open due to throttleor rpm or maybe even vaccumi believe. down low they arent open as much that way the car will have more power and not bog as much... its hard to explain the concept of what it does.. but what kills a cobra, are those 3.27 gears (99-01 cobras).. since it takes longer for them to get into those higher rpms where their power band is.
