Default EXTREMELY URGENT HeliCoil Process Question

In the middle of tapping out the hole, and we knew it was near the end where the bore would break though, and my father caught a tight spot and backed out.

So bad news is there is a very small, but not miniscule niche/gauge in the piston.

Someone has told me this is the VERY top of the piston.

What does this cause/what would it cause/what's gonna happen now if we just go about it like nothing happened?

Did my dad just **** my car?

That's a pretty risky idea.. lol..

BUt, another question..

what keeps the helicoil in the head once you put it in with the spark plug?

is the RTV silicone sealant going to create enough grip that you can back the spark plug out?

i thot you were sposed to use red loctite and let it sit for a day. is it really a risky idea. worst case senario its fu#ked and you have to replace some bottom end / head stuff anywayz. at least if you try it you may find that it wasnt enuff to effect anything. i dont belive a miniscule gouge would damage anything. with the pistons being flat top really youve jus created a small divet and the major thing to worry about is piston to valve contact.

I could be way off base butI think you'll be fine. I doubt the integrity of the piston was compromised too much if he just nicked it.

Again, I could be way off base here but if a little nick was such a big deal, how would flycutting pistons be ok?

Actually, a knick in the piston is worse than you may think. If there are ridges/sharp corners, then those can become hot spots and cause pre-ignition when running. Fly cutting pistons is fine because the sharp edges are slightly rounded.

i dont really think it would have done much to the piston... although... if you start it up, it runs weird or something.... it wouldnt have harmed anything else than what was hurt..

Good...

tomorrow my dad is going to weld some sort of metal dowel into the expander tool.. so that we can hit it cleanly and accurately to expand the knurled end into the head..

after that, i'll let it sit tomorrow night and it should be good to go wednesday after we reinstall the throttle body, cables, fuel rails, and then put the coils back on teh plugs...

Then I'll let everyone know how it goes.

EDIT: it was EASY getting tons and tons of shavings out of the car.. we just did everything with the piston up high *just a tad too high obviously* and then hand cranked the piston down and the shavings just kept appearing to be vacuumed, blown and vacuumed again
