well thats like calling it interchangeable. Alot of ford engines are like that, along with chevy. I think there is another explaination for it besides the dictionary. They only call the 4.6's modular. You can almost all the parts from a 5.0 engine with a 5.8 engine. I doesnt make sense.

Jbaniel's post is EXACTLY what it means. a series of engines used in many different cars that have interchangeable parts. it's cheaper for ford, they can use that money towards other things, like the SVT projects. and it's easier for us, the consumer, to find parts.

new technology is alwasy more expensive, like computers and video games etc, and cars are the same.
the 4.6 has only been in the mustang since 96, and a lot of things are still fairly new. it took a long time for the 4.6 motor to catch on, and now that it has, it's spreading like wildfire. but modular parts will always be more expensive than older pushrod stuff.
