I've got 3.73's and I like them but I don't drive on the highway too much so I would like to get 4.10's. Go with the 4.10's

I haven't heard many people talking about their clutches burning out quicker, but I guess that makes sense. I still can't decide between 3.73s or 4.10s, even though I'm leaning towards 4.10s now.
I didn't mean it like that. It's not that 4.10's = a buned out clutch, it just means that 4.10's = more clutch usage than taller gears, unless..................

Not exactly true, I shift less with my 4.10's, around town I can start in 2nd gear and skip right to 4th and get into 5th asap.
...you short shift 1st or 4rth, but that doesn't help your synchros very much. Although short shifting with 4.10's will help out the clutch life. Good point Dan.

i have a 99GT,, 51K miles
which woudl you guys recommend under the following circumstances 3.73's or 4.10

i only drive it in the summer, VERY little highway driving, mostly a summer cruiser, i mean, more than weekedn car, but not everyday.
i am definately more intrested in being fast to60 than a good quarter mile. im not a bad driver, but i am definatley not great with my manual yet, learning quicky though, not killing it anymore before i put it away.

the shop i took it too said about 90 for rings and stuff, and about 200 for labor, plus my 200ish for gears and 10 for fluids.. is that a decent price?

(hey dan, note the avatar...sorry, couldnt resist...)

I'd go with 4.10s since you're not an everyday driver and you're kinda unexperienced with driving stick. The 4.10s will cut down both your 0-60 and qtr times.

i know mustangs are not top end cars but i want mine to be a top end car...I want it to pull hard in the 45-130+mph range(of course with aid of power adder)...now what gearing would i be looking at.

when i say "pull hard" i mean single turbo supra hard...

is this even possible? []

When you say "power adder" do you mean like spercharger or just a lot of boltons? If you're getting a supercharger either 3.73s or 4.10s. If not, go with 4.30s. You can go even higher than that I believe but that's just insane.

won't 4.30s ruin your top end?

I'm not experienced with them so I wouldn't know. If you want a really good pull go with 4.10s then. That's what I plan on getting.
