My brother has a 04 gt with about 40k miles on it .. in the past couple days reverse has been literally popping out of gear .. and 5th feels like you're cutting a damn ice cream cake with a butter knife putting it in .. he's got a steeda triax and the stock 3650 .. any ideas on the problem before we take her in ..

Also .. Ford tech toldus that alot of the times with the 3650 you have to shift 1st 4th .. then reverse to avoid a grinding sound putting the car into reverse .. this helped for a while . .but now its a very common occurance and alot of the times my brother can't even get the car into reverse b/c it won't stay in gear.. the second you go to let the clutch out . .it pops out and if you try to hold it in place it makes the worse grinding noise in the world ..

hope its under warranty. Sounds like you need a synchro and/or shift fork. Thats an easy one to replace though, you're lucky.

 

Well its not under warranty .. since may .. but he works at a hendricktoyota dealership as a service writer .. its just the holiday weekend and nobody we knowis working so I'm trying to figure out what could be up before his mechanic buddies can take a look tomorrow.. we can get parts cheap and he can get them installed virtually free so I'm just trying to get it sorted out ...

 

Another tranny rebuild it sounds like. Mine is the same way, sometimes pops out of reverse, I always hold onto it now. I'm going to rebuild mine this winter, found this site. http://www.promotionpowertrain.com/1231590.html
I'm going to replace the clutch while I'm at it.

 

Also, double clutching going into 5th helps with my car. Just my .02!

 

Well I drove his car today .. 5th seems to be ok most of the time .. but reverse is as good as gone .. nothing will keep it in .. it just pops out and if you try to hold it in . it grinds horribly .. anyway ... going to take it apart tomorrow . hopefully its not gonna be too major ...

Also .. just installed a spec stage 2 a few months back so we're good in that department .. i've had my 04 im selling for a year now.. its only got 23,xxx miles on it and the tranny feels as good as new ..

the same thing was happening to me with 2nd gear when i first bought mine. i had to have the whole 2nd gear assembly replaced. and what sucked about that was you cant buy just the second gear assembly. ford sells it with 1st and 2nd together. so the price basicly doubled on the part. F**kers. this is my first mustang and when i had it fixed, the whole thing cost me $2119.30. i know now that i got totally skrewed in the cornhole. cant i get a bad *** trany for that price?? lol
