Air helps. Heads, cams, intake, manifold, headers, cat back, throttle body, mid pipe. . . . Our cars starve for air at high rpms. Mine breathes like a firebreathing dragon at 5500 rpms. . . but thats becuase of the h/c/i. Thats why 4v's are so great. But our cars seem to fall flat up there becuase they starve for air. . . gears isnt going to help that. . .its just gonna get you up in that starving rpms faster. . . Even cams wont do that as well . . theyll help a lot but you need air work . . .
well cams can help hold the intake/exhaust valvees open longer allowing more air exponentially increasing air flow in the higher rpms... but you need head work and a good flowing intake to allow all that potential air to make it and exhaust to scavenge all the air out. unfortunetly for us 2valves there is no magical bullet for the lack of top end power, and it wont be cheap getting it.
