Default 00 GT manual Trans fluid

Ok I want to change out the trans fluid...I'm seeing where a lot of people recommend RP. My question is..does the rear end fluid need changed as well? If so, I'm assuming this is a much more complicated procedure than the front end procedure of pulling the plugs, draining, and refilling? Do you use the same fluid in the rear end as you do up front? Thanks.

yep the same fluid is used in the front and rear. i took my car to ford to have it dont at 58k. the guy was like just so you know it dosent need to be changed until 100K. i wanted it changed anyway. suprisingly ford uses mobil 1 synthetic in the trannys. i took it to ford because changing it at home would be a PITA. when i was gettin the car back the guy said man that fluid was shot. good thing i changed it when i did. so yea if ur changing fluid might as well do the rear end with the tranny

Ford is not supposed to use Mobile 1. They are supposed to use OEM Mercon/Dextron. I recommend Mobile 1 over the OEM stuff anyway though. When you say rear end areyou talking about the rear of the tranny?

yes, I'm referring to the rear differential fluid. The rear diff. would use the same Mobil 1 synthetic ATF as well, correct? thanks

Make sure you use fully synthetic gear oil for the rear end and go to a ford dealer and get a bottle of friction modifier or you'll burn up the clutchs in the rear end.

So...Mobil1 synthetic ATF 75W140 for the front and Mobil1 synthetic 75W140 GEAR LUBE for the rear diff? Mobil1 site says this product contains friction modifiers, so I'm good to go with these two products? THanks again. BTW..I noticed the manual called for 80W90 gear lube, but I've read others use 75W140. why is this?

The 75w140 is thicker and can handle more heat, and abuse. For the tranny, I used 3 litres of Royal Purple ATF, plain and simple, for the rear I use Royal Purple 75W140 gear lube. This can be done at your house. You will need a cheap pump from the parts store, as you are not able to pour it out of the bottle and into the tranny or rear end. I dont think our cars have drains on the rear end, its been a while since Ive looked, If not you need a pump so you pump the old fluid out. In the tranny, whatever you do or use, only use 3 LITRES!

I should mention that the easiest way to do transmission fluid is to drain it via the plug, remove your shifter and fill it from up top. 3 quarts will do the trick.

Also as mentioned, fill the rear diff with gear oil, NOT ATF, and a bottle of ford friction modifier.
