Don't you think a Stage 3 is a bit overkill for a stock powered car?

i would definitley go Spec, i live in el paso texas, the home of texas hot rods, and thats what they recommend 100% of the time. stage 3 is overkill for bone stock and even mildly modified. if you actually get a blower, stage three is the way to go, but if you're not sure, go stage 1 or 2.

my gt is stock minus a cai, and i'm only getting a stage 1 spec. it holds 400-450 hp i do believe, about the same for torque/ft lbs. and i agree with whoever said it above, stage three from everyone i've talked to (not personal experience) you will lose some street drivability.

so to be fair the stage 2 would be just fine for a car if I eventually put a blower on it???

ok so last night i tried to smoke the tires
i was told to do it in 2nd gear so i wouldn over rev the motor.. i revved it up to about 4k and dumped the clutch it barely moved and all i could smell was burnt *** clutch?? is it worn out?? also when i did it in 1st gear it spun the tires and when i shifted it made the same clutch smell?? anybody else have this happen to them????

thanks fellas

First of all, why in the heck would you want to "smoke" the tires unless you were at a track? Second, why wouldn't you want to do a burn out in the lowest gear possible? Even with a bone stock 5 speed GT with the TC off you can smoke the rears in first without hitting the rev limiter.

If the clutch is slipping it's either worn out or out of adjustment.

You need to realize that clutches are rated at torque levels, not hp. A Spec stage 2 will be just fine at 550 rwtq. and have the same pedal compression feel as a stock clutch but will engage quite a bit "firmer". By that I mean, you're not going to be able to "slip" a Spec 2 like a factory clutch.

A Spec 2 is all you'll need on 95% of the GT cars on this forum. Stage 2+ will take care of the other 4%.

Some of the Cobra guys and the 1% of the GT guys may need to go with a stage 3 or 3+, but that's about it.

Unless you're putting down to the rears 600+ rwtq, a stage 2 or 2+ is all you'll need.

thats exactly what I was asking
thanks
and I just got new tires and was gonna burn the old ones down a bit but ended up burning the clutch I think! lol
actually it runs just fine
also... I was told a couple times on here that 2nd gear is the best gear for burnouts because 1st is so low it just revs like hell???

2nd gear just gets your tires to spin faster as if you were driving down the road. It just creates more smoke. If you burn out in 1st and shift into 2nd, you should be able to keep your tires spinning because they are super hot and slick from burning. Anytime I have dumped a 5spd or 6spd car in 1st and power braked it for a few seconds, I let off the brake with my foot still mashed on the gas and shifted into 2nd without ever stopping the tires from spinning. I wish I had videos to show, but all the burnouts were one continuos line until 3rd. Don't beat up on your GT just to burn some tires. If you want to burn tires and not screw up your clutch,go to an empty parking lot and turn your wheel all the way left and just mash the gas. Go around and around and you'll never have to dump your clutch or worry about going sideways into a ditch.

centerforce stage II will hold 200 HP of NOS on any engine you build and 26 in. slicks no problem seen it done! a buddy of mine spent $7000 on a 5.0 biult by a performance shope in PC Florida set up for 250 HP of NOS and the slick it hooks and doesn't slip the clutch.
