is it a stock clutch?
honestly, what you're doing is burning the clutch, when you rev high to spin em, dump it hard and they'll spin, if you slip the clutch, you'll get a ton more of that burning smell. worst comes to worse, buy a spec clutch kit for $200. you'll be glad you did.

This is a classic clutch going situation.
If you are careful with it and dont do any spirited driving, it will probably last a while longer. However, this means you do not have much clutch yet, and will have to eventually change it. Atleast you will be able to get rid of that POS stock clutch and get a real clutch.
BTW- Another good test, is to get it in cruising speed in 5th, and then go WOT, and see what happens. If it slips, then your clutch is nearly gone. If not, then you have a while longer. You just cant do second gear burnouts anymore.

I'm in VA and Excessive Motorsports swears by the Spec Stage 3's. The pressure plate on all the Spec clutch systems is the same, it's just the friction material that is changed. The stage 3 will hold up to 600 hp, I believe. I'm getting mine installed on my 97 GT on Friday. If I remember, I'll let you know how it goes. PM me on Monday of next week if I forget. Also, for the feel of the clutch, I sat in a car that had a stage 3 and the clutch felt just like the stock one. So I don't think you'll loose any driveability.

Well, I can't say from experience just yet. But from what I felt from that 2000 GT was nothing different from the stock one. Even the way it released was the same, not to mention the pressure it took to push it in. Again, remind me on Monday and I'll let you know how it is.
