Default T-56 Six Speed

Hey guys i was told by someone that a T-56 would be benificial for the mustang GT because there is still a good amount of "oomph" left in it when the car is in fourth gear. I do not know much about this swap but I was told that many GT drivers do that mod. I was also told that it gives cars with 4.10s better top end. Comments?

I was thinking about doing the swap myself at one time...if it is worth it.

WOuldnt do it unless you just have money burning a hole in your pocket.

1800 or so dollars just for the trans alone. 1800 would get you a new set of heads and some cams if you can do the install yourself. Lots of things for 1800 will for sure make you faster than a t56 would.

tremmec makes T56 conversion kits for pretty much all V8 mustangs. they run about $2500. it's a very durable tranny that can handle a lot of power, and with 4.10 gears you'd be turning like 2K at 70 in 6th. you've got room for 4.30's or better and still do ok on the highway because of the tall 5th and 6th gears. but i wouldn't bother with that unless your making like 450+ hp. your stock 03 tranny is great, will do well with 4.10 gears and can handle lots of power. if you ever blow your tranny, upgrade if you can. but otherwise, look elsewhere to get the most out of your GT.

If you really want to upgrade I'd buy a TKO before a T56 unless you really want a 6-speed. They are considerably less than a T56 and will withstand more power.

TKO's break very easily. missed shifts killed my friends.

the new TKO 500 and 600's are rated accordingly.
the hennessy venom 800 twin turbo handles over 1000 flywheel hp with the stock T-56.
03 cobras can run 600-800 rwhp on a T56, and many do.

i'd pay the extra cash for the T-56 if possible.

I am considering the trans question too, as I would like to SC my 4.6L 3 valve in my 05 GT. I would simply wait and buy an 06/07 Cobra, but it isn't sounding like they may ever get built. The factory web, states spec.s as shown below.

Mustang V6 Mustang GT
Engine Type 4.0L SOHC 12V V6 4.6L SOHC 24V V8
Displacement 4.0L (245 cu. in.) 4.6L (281 cu. in.)
Horsepower (SAE net @ rpm) 210 @ 5250 300 @ 5750
Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm) 240 @ 3500 320 @ 4500
Transmission Type T5 5-Speed Manual TR3650 5-Speed Manual

Cana TR3650 hold-up with 450 HP ??
