Also mine cracked underneath the hood right against the firewall. The hoses are really small. All I did was cut the hose right before the crack and scootched it to fit the plug.No big deal beside trying to find the damn crack.

Ford designed the a/c system to fail to the defrosters to prvent the windows from getting fogged up in case vacuum was lost to the system. On your firewall (passengers side) where your a/c freon lines go into the interior is a small vacuum line that goes to the vacuum accumulator, this line is probably broke. It is made of plastic where it goes thru the firewall. Ford does not sell a replacement, neither does Napa, Auto Zone or Advanced. The Ford dealer told me to replace it with a rubber vacuum line. I repaired mine by using a rubber vacuum line and placing over the two ends of the plastic line and pushing them in till they touched. To find where it connects to the accumulator (black, cylinder shaped) you will have to remove your glovebox and reach way up near the top, almost to the dashboard.
