It helps with overheating...if you live in a place like me in SoCal where it gets 100*+.

It basically lets the coolant into your motor when it reaches 180*, rather than the stock...which I think is like 190* or 200*. It makes the car run longer without coolant...so a 180* will be better.

Not entirely a waste...it does something, at least.

Installation is as easy as taking the hose off the intake manifold, taking the old thermostat out, and putting the new one in. It just sits there. Be certain you put it in the right way though.

As for temperatures, I don't see why you would really want to go down. Changing a thermostat does very little, and with a cooler thermostat, the heat wont get as hot. Living in Michigan I'd leave my thermostat stock probably.

Well yeah, but it's really not all that much. Going to a 180 from stock isn't going to give you any noticeable improvement. I don't know what exact numbers are, but unless you've got a race car I wouldn't really bother. I'd much prefer the heat on a cold Michigan day.

I put one in my car and it runs a lot cooler, which in my op. is better.
Your car will run its best between 150-180 deg.
Its just 10$ for an improvement, even though its not huge... its still a step forward. Thats just my opinion.
