you dont need port and polish heads with stage 2 cams..there are plenty of people out there who have done stage 2s with stock heads. is it a good idea? not really, just not enough air flow to suport a cam of that size, if you dont plan on screwing with the heads, go with the stages ones, great power gain and awesome powerband, i have them myself.

I have 4.30's and I think I would be all right going with a cam profile that is like a stage 2. I pull no problem off the line, but seem to fall off in the upper RPM's. The only problem with going with a bigger cam would be the added expense of needing new valve springs. That's going to add another $300 (approximately) to the overall cost in parts alone. And unless you are installing them yourself, the labor cost will increase a lot as well.
Cams usually run about $600, then you add the $300 for the springs. . . that's $900 right there. Installation could cost as much as $1000 if you can't do it yourself. So, you are looking at about $2,000 for another 20 horses. That's $100 per extra pony. A bit steep.

+1, go with the stage 2s. That way if you ever want to p&p your heads down the line, you already have the cams...
