the coil on plugs will not work but you can use your old ignition.. everything else would work... actually you may need a new flywheel since the auto has a flexplate stock. just about any 4.6 will fit. if you wanted you could even get a 5.4.... might as well so you get something these motors lack, torque.

Ok guys, so I found a 1997 Lincoln Continental 4.6 DOHC engine. If I just buy a Cobra flywheel will it bolt up directly to my stock transmission? Will all the wiring work with my stock computer and wiring?
Yes it will, but u wont have any power gain whatsover, the gt computer is completely different in the settings, one of the biggest issues will be the fact it cant open the IMRCs in the DOHV motor, when i did my swap and dynoed it on the stock gt computer i put down 193 rwhp, same i did with my 2v.
No. you cant use the stock gt computer for a DOHC motor. I'm suprised the car even ran and the wiring harness will not match up.

WRONG, my car is running fine at 420 rwhp with the GT COMPUTER, and the COBRA harness. (unless the lincoln harness is different it should be fine) The 96-98 gt and cobra ECU are the same platform minues the settings from the factory, the connections are THE SAME. The only problem is the gt computer doenst have the capability to open the IMRCs, once there deleted the gt computer will work fine. A tune will clear up any bugs

Default same question but different

So let's reverse that for my application. I have a 1997 f150 with a 4.6 in it automatic 4wd. The motor is bad. I have a 96 cougar with a 4.6 automatic. is this interchangeable?

A bit over $1000 and you still need the computer but its on ebay for $49 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...QQcmdZViewItem
Incorrect. The Mark VIII motor is just a drop in. I used the GT harness, slightly modified and the GT computer and it worked just fine.

I take it you left your IMRC's closed? If so, then yeah. I wired mine open and so did my friend, he put down 276HP to the wheels. I had plenty of juice to beat stock PI mustangs, stock LT1's, and hang with an L99 Camaro SS.

This thread is so old I don't even remember posting on it. But anyway about the wiring the IMRCS open I didn't wanna mess with them, a friend of mine used some kind of wire on the inside of the IMRCs and it came lose and sucked down into a cylinder so that ended bad. I'll be honest and I didnt really research any ways to tie them open i figured I would just delete them and be done.
