Default Exhaust leak killing my fuel economy

Any ideas as to where typical exhuast leaks occur? I've got an O/R mid pipe, and a cat back on it now... when I put any kind of load on the engine it sounds like the exhaust is chugging out of some leak somewhere under the hood, and I get an exhaust smell in the cabin when I turn the fan on. Is it possible for their to be a leak in between the header and the block? I really dont know where else to look for it!
I'm only getting about 205 miles to a tank as well!!

any advice would be appreciated!

Take a piece of water hose about 3 feet long and put one end up to your ear and use the other end next to the exhaust. (Don't touch it... rubber melts) You will find the general area of the leak. You will hear a totally different sound when you get near it. You should hear a ticking sound.

my guess is that its the drivers side manifold to midpipe connection. i just had that problem. just curious what brand midpipe do you have?

did you install a new gasket on the passenger side manifold? The driver side is the easier of the two to keep from leaking because of the ball and socket. The passenger side requires a gasket that sucks ***

It can make the O2 sensor think the mix is lean, and the PCM tries to fix it by adding fuel = poor fuel economy...
