Oil change today...question

RE: Oil change today...question
Highly unlikely....
The butt dyno is hardly accurate of anything. I would go and look elsewhere. Oil will not cause any noticable power loss unless you are trying to push a 20w-50 at -40.

this may sound wierd but I recently did a synthetical oil change from dino oil using mobil 1 oil and I noticed a slight power loss ever since i changed the oil its kind of strange and im only using 5w30 so i have no clue. I'm def going back to dino oil next oil change and see if it is in fact the culprit.

RE: Oil change today...question
I just changed the oil in both my motor and Procharger. For the motor I used Valvoline Full Synthetic Maxlife 5w30 w/ a Mobil 1 filter and I use the ATI supplied supercharger oil. I only have 53k on the clock.
I've done some reading on BobIsTheOilGuy and the general consensus was that high mileage oils contain more detergents and viscosity improvers than other oils, but manufacturers tend to stay away from the stuff since it affects emissions. I don't care so muchabout what comes out of my tailpipes (yes, I have cats), but I would tend to believe that more detergents + more viscosity improvers = good combination for any engine. Anyone have more extensive knowledge into that subject or care to verify that info?

My 2000 GT runs 5w-30. Mobil one has been ran through it most of it's life. Also my car only holds 5 quarts, not 6. And you synthetic oil will give a small INCREASE in power and gas mileage, just none you can feel, or see.

It won't hurt a thing. Unless you are using an SM rated oil 15-40 or something it won't harm your cats if thats your concern. Look in all honesty they wouldn't msrket HM rated oils if it was gonna hurt anything. Use it if you want and don't sweat the small stuff.

RE: Oil change today...question
Our engines are supposed to use 5w-20 because the oil gallaries in the heads are so small and the clearances are so tight that any much thicker would have a hard time getting lubrication their. If the manufacturer recomends it, thats about all you should run, they don't do thousands of lab hours on motors for nothing....

Not true, the reason auto manufacturers want 5-20 was for CAFE and nothing more. My 2K says 5-30 and it is the same motor. I wouldn'd dump that **** thin 5w-20 in anything I cared about.
