Default shift **** issues

so I got a new shift ****, it's the white roush one from AM that is for the 05+. The guy at the shop I was at this week said the handle threads were the same size so it wouldn't matter but I just tried to put it on and it didn't want to go. Obviously they list it as 05+ for a reason...

so I dont care I'm just going to force it on and replace the ****/handle when I get an mgw in a month or so. Do you recommend loctiting the threads or using plumbers tape or what? I know this is dumb but I'm replacing it anyway so I dont care. Just tell me the surest way to keep it on there. Thanks!
