Default shift points

ok here is the scoop, my 03 stock 5 spd GT should be running around the 14's right?
ILL ADMIT I am a rookie when It comes to racing stick.

SO for you guys with 5spds what rpm are you idleling on launch, and what is the best rpm shift point after wards. I have tried around red line (6000-6500) and I have tried 5500. I actuallly think I pick up better around 6. More or less I really need to work on launch and on 3rd. Any tips will be apreciated.

My best was a 14.53 @97.7 mph on horrible tires. I launched at 2500rpm and shifted at 5500 in every gear. My trap speed should have made for a 14.20 time or so, but too much wheelspin off the line. I'd launch around 2000rpm if you have stock tires, and around 3000rpm if you have better ones, i.e. Nittos, BFGoodrich, etc.

I ran a 14.3 when my 01 was stock. I had half tread on my Nittos and a perfect reaction time. I launch at 1200 RPM's (to reduce wheelspin).

you basically want to shift at the very end of your band, where you are still making power. and with stock exhausts i know that the mustangs tend to bog down above 5200-5500 or so, i suggest shifting somewhere in there. and another thing the more you mod your car, for example cams and ported heads you will be able to make power all through 6000 and then you will be looking at getting a higher rev limiter setting and other things but that is down the line for many of us. the best way to figure out where to shift is get a tach with a light and do run after run after run, set your pill to whatever RPM you were shifting at when you ran your best times, and then work on perfecting the launch. SEAT TIME is key!!!!!

When I ran stock tires... after all my mods, my best time was a 13.54. I always launched at idle because anything higher made me spin badly.

I always redline in first and second gear and third I take it to about 5400-5600 and im always at the redline of fourth when I cross the traps because I have 4.10's WOOT WOOT!!
