It (the "dogbone") weighs 8 and a bit pounds, mine has been off since I installed the 3.73 gears in March--20k miles or so with no ill effects of any kind. Its purpose is 100% NVH reduction, although I can't say I've noticed any increased levels of any of the three. You'll need a couple of shorter bolts (3/8-16 x 2-1/2" if memory serves) to remount the axle snubber, which is important, and is held on by the same bolts as the dogbone.
Defiantly for NVH (Noise,Vibration,Harshness). You guys are aware that removing an 8 lb weight in a street car will yield you nothing. Plus that thing is right where you want the weight in the rear and in the middle[&:]

I just wanted to add that as a 20 year mechanic and a shop owner, no Mustang that gets gears or any other rear end service leaves with the counter weight. It is " **** on a bull". Interesting to look at, but worthless.
