Default syncros

well from what it sounds like, my syncros may be going out.... Im not sure exactly, but sometimes when im going from 1st to 2nd its stiff going in, then 2nd to 3rd sometimes it doesnt even want to go into gear and i end up having to double clutch it.... what can i do other than reaplacing the entire tranny? what can i do that isnt super expensive but will get this fixed as soon as possible?

Have the Syncros replaced is about the cheapest. If you really want to save some $ pull the Trans yourself and take it to a trans shop to have it rebuilt.

Try draining and replacing your trans fluid first. On cold mornings my car shifts like crap (which is almost every day now). I've talked to TTC and read several tech articles that draining the fluid and replacing it with 3.17 quarts (3.0 liters) of non-synthetic Dexron III/Mercon will help immensley with cold weather shifting and shift smootheness in general. Ford put in 3.8 quarts of Mobil1 synthetic in there from the factory and Tremec has since revised the spec because of this exact problem. I plan onswapping fluidson my car this weekend. I'm hoping this helps since I don't have the cash for a rebuild with the holidays around the corner.

Not to hijack but for those of you who did the trans fluid swap how much did it help with shifting? The past two days have been in the 60 degree range and my car has been shifting ok, but when its cooler than that I get a "nibbling" going into third and have to double clutch second if its 40 degrees or cooler.

You can get a quartof regularDexron III/Mercon for like $3 or less. A quart is .967 liters or something like that. I've seen $800 or so for just syncros, $1200 to $2000 for a full rebuild.

Was the weather cold when you drove it... or did this just start happening when the weather started cooling off?

Wasn't there a TSB from Ford too about these? I thought someone on the SVT forum posted about it.

A quick googling on this showed TSB 04-15-6 and https://mustangforums.com/m_2053220/...tm.htm#2054141

I thought I heard that if you take it to the dealer and bring up this TSB, there is a chance that it will be done for free due to this TSB, even if the car is off warranty.

At least that is what I am hoping since mine is doing the same thing when going from 1st to 2nd.

Hope this helps.
