Default Installing My Own Gears...

Ok fellas, I could use a little advice with a gear install. My uncle and I are putting in my 4.10s and he is suggesting some parts I should put in along with the gears and I wanted to make sure they were totally needed. I am getting a diablo tuner for speedo recalc. and I planned on replacing the bearings already. However, he is saying something about putting in new Races (no idea what they are), Crush Ring, using a Shim Assortment, and also putting in axle seals (something to do with fluid possibly leaking). Is all this stuff really needed because I don't wanna spend money on parts I won't need. Thanks for any input guys.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I'll look into one of those kits. He's not a mechanic but knows a hell of a lot.

I don't think I'll have a problem with it. My uncle has changed out and tweaked the gears on his TA multiple times and he hasn't had any problems. BTW, I picked up an installation kit today for 40 bucks at a mustang shop so now all I need to get are the bearings. Anyone know where I can get some for a good price?

I found these bearings on ebay and was wondering if they were what I needed for gear install. I'm not sure if they're the right thing I need or not.

Hey bro, sorry it took a lil while to post. But i have been busy alot lately. So ok.... Those bearing you found are for the axle seals and axle bearings. MAKE sure you have a slide hammer with a axle bearing removing tool screwed on the end of it. IF you plan on replacing the bearings. Being you have a 99, its not even worth the time to replace them. They wont be bad for a while. as for the seals ( axle seals).. Some people remove the axles when doing gears... ME NOPE! I just plop the c-clips out of the way and slide them out just enough to yank the carrier out. I found the post and its at the top of the 4.6 forums.

Thanks for the post casper, but you're saying I really don't need to replace the bearings? I've heard from lots of guys that if you have high mileage (90 k on mine) that you should replace them.
