Default Locking Header Bolts

K im gonna throw in my LT's next weekend. was suggested to get some stage 8 locking header bolts and percy gaskets from summit. the bolts are 8x22x1.25 i think. on someones how-to he said to use some 25mm bolts cuz 20's werent long enuff to use on his BBK headers.will THESEwork with my mac headers? not gonna be too short? that would suck to tear the car apart and find out i dont have the right bolts [:@]. thx

The ones I got from Summit are the ones made for 4.6L and 5.4L FORD part # 8906. I don't have them installed yet 'cause it is to cold out I have SLP headers to be put on.

If you havent ordered them yet I really wouldnt waste your money. When I first installed my LTs i just used the stock studs and nuts and they never leaked. When I took them off I pulled the studs and used the bolts that mac sent with the headers and they never leaked.

The factory studs and nuts work just as good if not better than the aftermarket locking bolts. The studs actually make the install a lot eaiser because you have studs to put the gasket on then the headers just slide up on them making it much easier. Don't waste your money on the locking bolts.

Let's say you decide to be cheap and not use them. Then you get a leak. Now you've gottago through all that @#$% again because you can't reach the bolts(unless you decided to splurge on a tubular k member).

The moral of the story, if you are paying a shop to put the headers on make them guarantee against leaks so they can fix it if it does. If you are doing the install yourself, GET THE LOCKING HEADER BOLTS!!! My headers leaked twice before I boughtthe bolts. That sucked majorarse! Once I bought the bolts and put them on, Iwas good to go.

My.02 cents.

I had thebolts that came with the FRPPheaders and were tight! When I swapped out blocks one was gone and two loose! Needless to say I went with the Stage 8 locking header bolts!

Bad installs. Didn't torque the nuts right.

Whatever man (so smug). Wait till yours start leaking. You'll go and buy some too (or try to live with a leak like most do). With a 5.0 I say go with what your wallet can handle since you can pretty see and reach most of the bolts. With 4.6s I always say better safe than sorry.

I have installed LTs on 8 different cars using the stock hardware and never once have they brought it back to me cause of a header leak. If you do it right the first time then you don't have to worry about it.

+1 on the factory studs and nuts. Just torque 'em correctly.
